History of the Population and Settlement of Sweden
Sweden first became a place for people to live at the end of the Ice Age. When the ice melted lush land was created which made it possible for people to live there and have food to eat. This happened around twelve thousand years ago. Settlements began to grow there, they were small settlements of hunters and gatherers. Then the temperatures began to drop again and the land was not useful to them any more. The settlements were pushed towards the coast to live because they could not use the ground. After this mini cooling period the temperatures rose again and the land was useful again.
The Viking Age was soon upon the Nordic regions which included Sweden. Vikings were very useful influential to the country of Sweden. They expanded their contacts by traveling. They often went and plundered places but they also traded with people. They developed very established trading links with places as far as the Byzantine Empire and many Arab kingdoms.
The Viking age ended and the settling communities began to grow larger and larger. They began farming and became agrarians. Their trading grew more and more with the Germans and they started to see other European countries and a monarchy formed which is still intact today. This monarchy brought together all the settlements and created the country known today as Sweden.

This is a population pyramid of Sweden's population in 1950. It can tell us many things about the country. The dip at the bottom of the pyramid shows that there was either a decrease in birth rates or death rates in babies or young children several years ago. You can see this in the image because there is a less percentage of the population that are in their teen years.

This image is of a population pyramid of Sweden's population in 2000. Already you can tell that people are living longer than the people of the 1950's. This pyramid is also skinnier although there is more population because of the fact that people live longer.
